Some information about the fleet base, intended mainly for newcomers who haven't played STO in a fleet before.
What is a fleet starbase?
The base is similar to other starbases and ports in STO. You approach the base and choose to dock. Beaming down, you can explore the base and will find many of the facilities you would also find on Sol Stardock and other bases.
There are also other facilities, such as the Officer of the Watch, who offers assignments and Duty Officers for you to recruit. The starbase is also essential to purchase fleet ships. Fleet ships are still purchased like any other ship on one of the regular star bases, but they require provisions in order to be bought. Said provisions can only be acquired on the fleet starbase.
Above all it is, however, a convenient port of call for you to clear your inventroy, pick up assignments or goods, or repair your ship and have your injuries treated.
Where can I find the starbase?
Proceed to the Eta Eridani Block ("South" of Sirius, which is where Sol is, the place where you first started). In the Aldebaran Sector, near K7, you will find a "Fleet Starbase System". Approach this to reach your new home.
Why does it look like a burnt-out wreck that has been drifting through space for the best part of a milennium?
The short answer: Budget cuts. Well, slightly more serious, the starbase is under development and will be for a long time. The better developed our starbase, the more facilities become available. A well-developed base will also reap other benefits, including passive buffs you receive as member of the BRI.
How do I improve our base?
By contributing any resources you think you can spare. Open the fleet menu and select holdings to see how far along the starbase is. Click on any of the projects to see what resources are still needed to start that particular project. If you have anything of what is needed, why not donate it?
The entire base is built from donations from everyone in the fleet, and everyone benefits from them. Furthermore, you receive fleet credits when donating to projects, which you will need to purchase fleet ships, and to advance in rank in the Institute.
